POLITICS HAS A NEW NAME: CHAOS

12 years ago, David Cameron was voted in as the Prime Minister representing the Conservative party. This was the start of a Conservative dominance! At the time this seemed like the right choice, but little did the public know this party would plunge the UK into turmoil! In this article, we will lift the lid and delve in 10 Downing Street’s innermost secrets…

In 2019 Boris Johnson was voted into Downing Street as leader of the Conservative party. Shortly after his appointment, Johnson addressed the nation with a solemn message: “We’re seeing the devastating impact of this invisible killer and so tonight… we have been asking people to stay at home during this pandemic.”  The coronavirus had hit England sending it into a lockdown. This global pandemic isolated the world from one another, closing many businesses. This made it a struggle for many families to feed themselves, put a roof over their heads and this resulted in shrinking the economy.

The health secretary at the time, Matt Hancock advised the nation to stay away from others, stay at home and to wear masks in public shops. He made restrictions regarding social distancing, funeral sizes (3 people) and weddings. Then only weeks later, Boris Johnson and his colleagues were spotted having parties and blatantly breaking the guidelines set by his own cabinet! This lost the trust given to him by the British public.

“No Government that is for the profiteers be for the people, and I am for the people, whilst the government is for the profiteers.”

– Rose Pastor Stokes. (American activists)

Johnson continued to have these parties despite being warned by other MP’s.

In 2022 after his resignation, a study showed that from his first day in power to his last, the UK’ economy declined 9.9%, the largest since 1970 according to the website Statista.com

Out with the old and in with the new, Liz Truss (foreign secretary) rose to power claiming she was “a fighter, not a quitter”. However, she only made things worse. In the forty-four days that she was the Prime Minister, the economy further declined by 3% ‘Statista’; and was outlasted by a Lettice! Many wanted a general election.

Sunak was quick to step up to the challenge saying: “The government I lead will not leave the next generation, your children, and grandchildren, with a debt to settle that we were too weak to pay ourselves. I will unite our country, not with words, but with action. I will work day in and day out to deliver for you. This government will have integrity, professionalism, and accountability at every level. Trust is earned. And I will earn yours.”

He has kept this country steady for now and has started to deliver, but how long will he keep this up?

  1. Interesting article, politicians do have to deal with crisis after crisis ‘Events, dear boy, events’ – Harold MacMillan. It would be a very difficult job and impossible to get all the decisions right. Most of the choices that they have to make are good for some and bad for others.

  2. Love the title! So many Prime Ministers to write about! Who will be in charge next month? Great article!

  3. An informative and insightful article about the sorry state of affairs that we are living through! Sounds like there’s a couple of lads who might be better off making some decisions on behalf of the government. Great article, well-written and wow… a lettuce…
